Royal Caribbean Announces New Quantum Class of Ships and Names of First Two Ships

Posted February 06, 2013
Royal Caribbean International recently announced the names of its first two "Project Sunshine" ships, scheduled to debut in the fall of 2014, and the spring of 2015, respectively.

The 158,000-ton, 4,100-passenger new class of ships will now be known as the Quantum Class; the Quantum of the Seas (2014) and the Anthem of the Seas (2015).

The names were announced Feb. 5 as the first piece of steel was cut for the two ships at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, where both ships will be built.

Royal Caribbean is still not able to share any details about the upcoming Quantum class, but the bar of innovation is set high making the name Quantum a great fit, since Royal Caribbean feels they are going a step above and propelling the industry forward. Taking a quantum leap. The Anthem of the Seas represents a song of praise for the most popular features in the Royal Caribbean fleet.

"The new ship will be such a leap forward in terms of vessel design and guest experiences that we thought the name Quantum of the Seas was perfectly appropriate," said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. "The word anthem is defined as a song of praise and Anthem of the Seas is indicative of many of the best qualities and features of Royal Caribbean International. Quantum represents a step change in cruising and anthem is a song of praise for that step."

"Throughout our history we have made huge strides in cruise ship design and innovation and the Quantum class will be no exception," said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. "We look forward to introducing consumers to Quantum cruising."

More details on the exciting new Quantum class will be revealed over the next year.
