Norwegian Cruise Line Announces Plans to Build a Third New Ship

The Breakaway Plus Will be Their Largest Ship and Debut in 2015

Posted October 24, 2012
Norwegian Cruise Lines ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, will debut in less than a year and the Norwegian Getaway is set to be delivered ahead of schedule in late January 2014.

Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway have garnered significant attention in the marketplace with their innovative design, rich stateroom mix and world-class amenities," Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian's president and CEO said. "Building on that momentum we are extending the excitement and anticipation with a new, larger edition Breakaway Plus class ship to further distinguish the Norwegian brand."

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced it has reached an agreement with the Meyer Werft GMBH shipyard in Germany to build a third new cruise ship to be delivered in October, 2015.

The new ship, currently penned Breakaway Plus, will have capacity for 4,200 passengers and at 163,000-tons she will be the largest in Norwegians fleet, larger than both the Breakaway and Getaway. The Breakaway Plus will offer many of the unique design elements scheduled for the Breakaway-class vessels, but will also include many innovative features that Norwegian Cruise Line is known for.

Norwegian also is maintaining the option for a fourth ship, for delivery in spring 2017.
