Hurtigruten Adds Iceland to Expanding Tours Portfolio

Hurtigruten, the undisputed authentic travel expert on Norway and its stunning coastline, is growing its popular tours portfolio by launching three new tours to North American travelers. The first, the Grand Nordic Adventure, is a 19-day land and sea adventure encompassing Norway, Finland, and for the first time, Iceland. The first guided tour sets off this July, starting in Helsinki, and includes a rail journey across Finland, a stay at the Santa Claus Hotel, hiking with huskies, and learning about the indigenous Sámi people. The journey also features a six-day Southbound Hurtigruten Coastal Express cruise from Kirkenes down to Bergen, before flying to Iceland. Highlights there include Reykjavik, the Blue Lagoon, breathtaking waterfalls, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Þingvellir National Park.

The second new tour, Nordic Winter Journey, starts in remote Finnish Lapland, which is the travelers' first chance to see the Northern Lights, staying at a remote camp resort. They will also experience winter adventures in Finland including snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and sleigh rides through Arctic landscapes. The 13-day guided tour also explores Sámi heritage, visits Inari and the SIIDA Museum, cruises the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, and includes a ride on the world-famous Flåm Railway, as well as the full Southbound Hurtigruten Coastal Express.

The new, summer-only Norway’s Capital and Coast tour combines the country’s charming capital Oslo with a six-day Southbound Hurtigruten Coastal Express cruise from Kirkenes down to Bergen and includes numerous UNESCO-listed natural and cultural wonders. A selection of Norway’s eight World Heritage sites are included along the route.

“Hurtigruten has been the destination immersion experience for Norway, and now travelers can extend that experience with amazing tour options cruising along the beautiful coastline, booking a tour including Iceland to the very best of Norway and Finland, or decide to experience the highlights of Finnish Lapland, or simply enjoy a few days in one of Europe’s most charming capitals, Oslo. Whether you want to see the Northern Lights in as many places as possible, as with our best-seller Follow the Lights, or chase the Midnight Sun across the Nordics, Hurtigruten truly has something for everyone,” said Carly Biggart, Head of Hurtigruten Americas.

These new tours build on Hurtigruten’s portfolio of successful guided, partially-guided and self-guided tours. The most popular are:

  • Follow the Northern Lights – A guided land and sea tour that includes a train ride across Finland, Finland’s Arctic wilderness, visiting the Santa Claus Village and staying in scenic Nordic lodges, as well as Hurtigruten’s Coastal Express and a train journey through Norway’s snow-covered landscapes.
  • Savor the Lights – a premium take featuring the Northern Lights, this tour is onboard Hurtigruten’s all-inclusive Signature Concept. Besides a train ride across Finland, it includes an icebreaker adventure, staying in a glass villa in Finnish Lapland, chasing the Northern Lights on a husky safari, and the North Cape Line.
  • Follow the Midnight Sun – a 15-day escorted tour that starts in Swedish Stockholm, and includes the highlights of one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals, a ferry ride to Helsinki, and then continuing by rail journey through Finland up to Finnish Lapland, where guests will hike with huskies and learn more about the indigenous Sámi people, then crossing into Norway and visit the Snowhotel before embarking on a Southbound Coastal Express.
  • Arctic Frontier – these three new itineraries combining the premium Svalbard Line with an extension in Svalbard in the remote Arctic close to the North Pole were launched last year. The 17-day tour with a Svalbard cruise extension starts in Oslo, includes the iconic Flåm railway which is considered the most beautiful train journey in the world, the Northbound Svalbard Line to Longyearbyen, where the adventure continues with a wildlife and glacier cruise, an ‘Arctic tasting menu’ dinner at the esteemed restaurant Huset, and a four-night Arctic wilderness cruise beyond 80° North.
  • Discover Norway with Summer Snow hotel stay – bookend the Southbound Coastal Express with a stay at the Snowhotel, or one of its gamme cabins, and a king crab safari and a stay in Oslo;
  • Best of Norway– the 12-day self-guided combines the popular Norway in a Nutshell and Flåm Railway and a cruise on the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord with the Southbound Coastal Express;
  • Complete Norway – Northern Lights – the 16-day self-guided tour that breaks up the Flåm Railway journey with an overnight stop in the picturesque Flåm and a night in Bergen before embarking on the full roundtrip Hurtigruten Coastal Express.
