Another NCL Ship gets a Churrascaria Eatery

Posted January 27, 2011

One of Norwegian Cruise Line's 10 ships, the 1,936-passenger Norwegian Sun, re-entered service Januray 26th after a 12-day overhaul that brought it a new Brazilian churrascaria eatery, among other additions.

Moderno Churrascaria, as the restaurant is being called, is a copy of the popular outpost of the same name that debuted in June on Norwegian Cruise Line's 4,100-passenger Norwegian Epic -- the first churrascaria eatery at sea. In the interim, another line, Royal Caribbean, also has rolled out a churrascaria eatery on its newest ship, the 5,400-passenger Allure of the Seas. Churrascaria restaurants traditionally feature a variety of skewered meats presented by tableside passadors, as well as salad bars.

The makeover of the nine-year-old Norwegian Sun also brought enhancements to the vessel's public areas and all 33 of its suites as well as some crew-only areas. The new Moderno Churrascaria replaces a restaurant called Pacific Heights.

The Norwegian Sun is just the first of three Norwegian ships scheduled for an overhaul this year. Also scheduled for a freshening: The eight-year-old Norwegian Dawn (in May) and the 12-year-old Norwegian Spirit (in September).

Norwegian Sun currently is sailing alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral, Fla., departing every Saturday. In May, the ship is moving to Europe where it will offer the line's first voyages from Copenhagen, Denmark.
