Alaska Native Heritage Trail and Traditions with Meal

Designed for guests who want to understand Alaska, not just see it, this guided walking experience offers a thoughtful introduction to Southeast Alaska Native culture. With seven interpretive stops, including six intricately carved totem poles, this tour shares the stories, values, and traditions that connect Alaska Native peoples to the land. It is ideal for travelers seeking cultural insight and a deeper sense of place.

Your experience begins along an outdoor heritage trail, where an Alaska Native guide leads you through clan history, ancestral teachings, and the powerful relationship between people and their environment. Through storytelling grounded in lived experience, your guide explains how climate, natural resources, and daily survival shaped traditional life and cultural values. Each guide brings their own background to the tour and may be a dancer, storyteller, artist, carver, or tradition bearer, offering a personal and authentic perspective at every stop.

The walking pace is relaxed and unhurried, allowing plenty of time to listen, reflect, and ask questions as you move between interpretive points.

Following the guided walk, enjoy a $30 meal credit at the Mount Roberts Tramway restaurant. A variety of vegetarian, gluten-free, and non-seafood options are available, with only select premium items exceeding the credit amount.

Your tour also includes round-trip access on the Mount Roberts Tramway, giving you the flexibility to ride at your own pace and take in sweeping mountain views, explore shops, and enjoy visitor facilities at the summit.

Please Note: The Mount Roberts Tramway has been temporarily closed since April 30, 2026, due to ongoing maintenance. The tram and meal components are currently unavailable; however, the guided cultural walking experience will continue as scheduled. Guides may be dancers, storytellers, artists, carvers, or tradition bearers; however, organized performances are not guaranteed and vary by guide. Updates regarding the tram's reopening will be shared as they become available.
