Sitka Snorkel at Magic Island

Join us for a one-of-a-kind snorkeling adventure in Sitka Sound. Sheet'ka Kwaan (Sitka) sits along Alaska's outer coast, where nutrient-rich waters create a thriving and diverse marine ecosystem. These unique conditions make it an incredible place to explore a living kelp forest.

Your experience begins with pickup at Harrigan Centennial Hall in downtown Sitka. Keep an eye out for the maroon snorkel van. After a short drive to the snorkel shop, your friendly and experienced team will outfit you with a full set of 7mm wetsuits, accessories, and snorkeling gear to keep you warm, comfortable, and safe throughout your adventure.

From there, you'll travel to Magic Island, where your guides will provide a safety briefing and overview before leading you into the water from the rocky shoreline. Once in, you'll spend approximately 60 to 80 minutes exploring the underwater world, swimming through lush kelp forests and discovering the rich intertidal environment. With a 1:5 guide-to-guest ratio, the experience remains personal and well supported throughout.

As you snorkel, you may encounter a variety of marine life such as rockfish, sea stars, needlefish, and even Giant Pacific octopus. Be sure to look around above the water as well, as bald eagles, sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals, and even humpback whales are often seen in the area.

After your time in the water, you'll return to the snorkel shop where you can change into dry clothes and warm up with complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, or tea. Your tour concludes with a return to Harrigan Centennial Hall, leaving you with time to relax and enjoy the rest of your day.

Please Note: All guests participating in our tours or activities must sign a waiver form acknowledging the inherent risks and confirming their good physical condition. For participation, guests should have no respiratory conditions, heart issues, or uncontrolled high blood pressure. Additionally, guests interested in snorkeling must be proficient swimmers. Those with concerns are encouraged to consult their personal physician before engaging in any potentially strenuous activity.
